Driver Fatigue and Distraction Camera

The MapTrack DualSight AI dash cam faces the road and the driver. On the Advanced plan, its infrared driver camera picks up drowsy driving, distraction, phone use, seatbelt and smoking, day and night. Each event is saved with its clip, the trip, the speed and the place in MapTrack, and counted in the camera’s weekly safety score.

Cameras from $795 ex GST ($874.50 inc GST), with month-to-month plans from $34 ex GST ($37.40 inc GST) a month.

Distracted driving at 10:41 AM on Saturday 17 October in MapTrack, shown as event 2 of 23, with the trip it belongs to, 10:36 AM to 10:53 AM over 16 minutes and 4.9 km, a video player set to the Driver view with Both and Road also offered and the driver’s face blurred, and a speed of 43 km/h. The location and driver name are masked.

Distracted driving, on the camera facing the driver

A distracted driving alert from the camera that faces the driver, shown on the Driver view with the trip it happened on and the speed at the time. Driver monitoring, which covers distraction, fatigue and phone use, needs the DualSight’s driver-facing camera and the Advanced plan. The face is blurred in this screenshot, and the driver name and street address are masked.

What you see in MapTrack

These are from one of the cameras in our demonstration account, captured in the MapTrack app.

What the AI catches

Short clips of real driver events, saved by the camera with the speed and place. Driver monitoring is on the DualSight with the Advanced plan.

A privacy lens cap is available for the driver-facing lens. Workplace surveillance rules differ by state, so check your obligations and tell your drivers before you fit driver-facing cameras.

Every camera on one safety dashboard

The Safety events dashboard in MapTrack brings every connected camera into one view, so you can see how the whole fleet is driving, not one vehicle at a time. It sits under Devices, and camera footage and safety events are visible to account owners only, because they're personal to the driver.

  • Trips, drive time, distance and events per 100 km for the whole fleet, each against the previous period.
  • A week view that shows when events happen, and a heat map that shows where. When one kind of event keeps happening at the same spot, MapTrack flags it.
  • Needs attention lists the events to look at first, such as panic button presses.
  • Click an event type to see how many, where, which vehicles or drivers, and the time of day it happens.
  • A table ranks every vehicle, or every driver, by safety score and top issue, with To watch and Safest filters.
  • Date ranges from today back to the last quarter, and every vehicle’s own record keeps its camera’s week.
Safety events dashboard in MapTrack for the last 7 days: tiles for 41 trips, 14 hours 9 minutes of driving, 406 km and 17.2 events per 100 km, each against the previous period; an Activity week view with a fleet score of 98 and 70 events grouped by time of day; a Needs attention list of panic button presses; a What’s happening breakdown led by distracted driving at 40%; a Safety trend chart of events per 100 km by event group; and an Assets table with each vehicle’s score, trips, distance, events per 100 km and top issue.

Every camera’s safety events on one page

Released on 25 October 2026: one page for every camera in the fleet. Trips, drive time, distance and events per 100 km sit against the previous period, the week shows when events happen, Needs attention lists panic button presses first, and the Assets table ranks each vehicle by its score and top issue. Thumbnails, street addresses and one demonstration asset name are masked.

What the camera picks up

Driver monitoring runs on the camera itself, on the DualSight with the Advanced plan:

  • Fatigue: drowsy driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Phone use while driving
  • Seatbelt use
  • Smoking in the cab

How you see it in MapTrack

Every event is saved with its clip, the trip it happened on, the speed and the suburb. The camera’s week shows a safety score, with drowsy and distracted driving counted apart from collision risk and driving style, so you can see whether attention is the issue or the driving is. The map shows where the events happen.

See when fatigue and distraction happen, across the fleet

The Safety events dashboard puts every camera on one page. Click drowsy or distracted driving and MapTrack sums it up: how many events, the change on the previous period, a heat map of where, which vehicles or drivers, and a time-of-day strip that shows when they cluster. In our demonstration fleet, most distracted driving came from one vehicle between 9 am and 11 am. That is the conversation to have with that driver, and the shift pattern to look at.

The Drivers table ranks each driver by safety score and top issue, with To watch and Safest filters, and you can look back from today to the last quarter. Camera footage and safety events are visible to account owners only, because they’re personal to the driver.

What NHVR says about fatigue and distraction detection

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has published good practice guidance on fatigue and distraction detection technologies (FDDT). It says the technologies are shown to play a positive role in reducing driver fatigue and distraction events, and that its guidance is a starting point, not a prescriptive must-do.

Neither MapTrack nor its cameras are approved or certified by the NHVR, and fitting a camera doesn’t meet your obligations on its own. What the DualSight gives you is a dated record of fatigue and distraction events to support your fatigue management, your safety management system and your duties under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

Driver privacy

A privacy lens cap is available for the driver-facing lens. Workplace surveillance rules differ by state, so check your obligations and tell your drivers before you fit driver-facing cameras. Our fleet camera policy guide walks through the decisions to make.

More than a fatigue monitor

The same camera records the road ahead, saves clips of harsh braking and impacts, and on the Pro plan alerts on tailgating, forward collision warnings and lane departure. Its GPS puts the vehicle’s location and trips in MapTrack, so a vehicle with a DualSight doesn’t need a separate GPS tracker.

Driver fatigue cameras FAQ

How does a driver fatigue camera work?

An infrared camera faces the driver and on-device AI watches for signs of drowsiness, distraction and phone use. On the DualSight with the Advanced plan, each event is saved with its clip and shows in MapTrack with the trip, speed and place.

Does it work at night?

Yes. The DualSight’s driver camera uses infrared night vision, so it can see the driver on early starts and night runs.

Does the DualSight have NHVR approval?

No. MapTrack and the DualSight hold no NHVR approval or certification. The NHVR publishes good practice guidance on fatigue and distraction detection technology, and the camera gives you a dated record of events to support your own fatigue management.

Which plan do I need for fatigue alerts?

The Advanced plan, on the DualSight. Standard covers clips, location and trips, and Pro adds live road alerts. The road-facing RoadSight can’t take the Advanced plan because it has no driver camera.

Can drivers turn the camera off?

A privacy lens cap is available as an accessory for the driver-facing lens. Agree when it is used in your camera policy.
