The SafetyCulture Alternative Built Around the Asset, Not the Form

MapTrack is the best SafetyCulture alternative for asset-first operations: per-asset pricing with unlimited users, built-in reservations, native GPS and 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources.

Teams switch from SafetyCulture when they need a dedicated asset register with reservations, per-asset pricing without per-seat fees, or native GPS and direct OEM telematics driving maintenance. At 100 users on SafetyCulture Premium, licensing is $28,800/year before add-ons - MapTrack scales per-asset, not per-headcount.

TL;DR - SafetyCulture vs MapTrack

  • SafetyCulture is an Australian-born inspections, safety and training platform trusted by 76,000+ organisations across 180+ countries (including major global enterprises). 10,000+ templates, iAuditor AI form builder, SC Training LMS and an Assets pillar (pre-starts, work orders, partner telematics). Per-seat pricing across three plans: Free (10 users) / Premium $24/seat/mo annual / Enterprise custom, with Lite seats (~$5/user) within the paid plans. At 100 Premium seats = $28,800/year.
  • MapTrack is built for asset-first operations (construction, civil, mining, facilities) with native GPS tracking, 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources, built-in reservations, offline-first mobile, AS/NZS-aware templates and per-asset pricing with unlimited users. Tracking, compliance and maintenance in one platform.
  • Choose MapTrack if you need reservations, per-asset pricing with unlimited users or OEM-driven maintenance. Choose SafetyCulture if inspections, safety programs and training are the primary focus.

What is SafetyCulture?

SafetyCulture (formerly iAuditor) is an Australian-founded workplace safety and quality platform used by 76,000+ organisations across 180+ countries, with over 1 billion checks completed annually. Founded in 2004 by Luke Anear in Townsville, Queensland, it is best known for its inspection and audit capabilities - 10,000+ public templates, an AI form builder and the iAuditor checklist tool used by major global enterprises.

SafetyCulture has expanded beyond inspections to include SC Training (1,000+ accredited courses with microlearning and certifications), Heads Up (broadcast safety communications), an Assets pillar (digital asset register, pre/post-start checks, work orders and partner telematics - launched 2023), and issues and actions management. Rated 4.6/5 on Capterra. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 certified. Three plans: Free (up to 10 users, 5 templates), Premium ($24/seat/month annual or $29/month monthly) and Enterprise (custom quote). Within the paid plans you can add Lite seats (around $5/user/month with a reduced inspection allowance) and free Guest seats alongside Full seats.

Why teams look for a SafetyCulture alternative

SafetyCulture is a strong platform for inspections, training and safety programs. Teams typically look for alternatives when asset management is the primary need or per-seat pricing compounds at scale:

Per-seat pricing compounds at scale

At 100 users on Premium ($24/seat/month annual), SafetyCulture licensing costs $28,800/year before any add-ons. MapTrack is per-asset with unlimited users - roll out to every operator and subcontractor without a per-seat penalty.

Reservations and planning

SafetyCulture's Assets pillar does not state dedicated asset reservation or a planning view that prevents double-booking. MapTrack has built-in reservations standard - reserve specific assets by job and see availability across the fleet.

Asset-first vs forms-first

SafetyCulture is forms and safety-first; the Assets pillar launched 2023. MapTrack is asset-first: the register, reservations and maintenance are the core, with compliance attached to each asset record.

Native GPS vs third-party telematics

MapTrack ships GPS trackers (incl. ultra long-life battery) for real-time asset location, trip history and geofences. SafetyCulture's Live Map depends on Samsara, Geotab, Motive and partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas - it has no own GPS hardware.

Direct integrations vs partner-brokered

MapTrack connects 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources directly. Caterpillar, John Deere, Geotab, Samsara, Motive and more. SafetyCulture's telematics are brokered through partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas - data flows only as fast as the connector updates.

Maintenance depth

MapTrack includes work orders with OEM telemetry-driven triggers (engine hours, fault codes) on all plans. SafetyCulture's work orders and automated maintenance are on Premium and above; independent CMMS analysis (Fabrico 2026) notes the lack of a 'robust native maintenance execution engine.'

How MapTrack compares to SafetyCulture

Which is more affordable for large field teams?

MapTrack is per-asset with unlimited users. SafetyCulture Premium at 100 users costs $28,800/year before add-ons.

MapTrack uses asset-based pricing with unlimited users - operators, supervisors, subcontractors and managers all get access at no additional per-seat cost. SafetyCulture's three plans are Free (up to 10 users and 5 templates), Premium ($24/seat/month annual, $29/month monthly) and Enterprise (custom); within the paid plans you can mix Full, Lite (around $5/user/month with a reduced inspection allowance) and free Guest seats. At 100 Premium seats annual, licensing is $28,800/year before any add-ons - and that grows with every new hire. Per-user pricing was the most-cited cost pain in SafetyCulture reviews on Capterra, G2 and the Connecteam comparison page. For teams with 20+ field workers, MapTrack's model can be significantly more cost-effective. SafetyCulture's free tier is competitive for small teams or compliance-only use cases up to 10 users.

Which has asset reservations?

MapTrack has built-in reservations standard. SafetyCulture's Assets pillar does not state reservation.

MapTrack includes built-in reservations and a planning view on all plans - reserve specific assets by job, see availability across the fleet and avoid double-booking. SafetyCulture's Assets pillar covers the digital asset register, pre/post-start checks and work orders, but dedicated asset reservation (book this asset for this job from date A to date B) is not stated in published documentation. Task management and maintenance scheduling exist; a planning view that prevents double-booking specific assets between crews is not in the public docs. Verify with SafetyCulture if reservations are a requirement for your operation.

Which is more asset-first?

MapTrack is built around the asset register. SafetyCulture is forms and inspections-first; Assets is one pillar.

MapTrack's platform is built around the asset register. Every compliance record, work order and maintenance schedule is tied to a specific asset. Reservations, GPS location, compliance evidence and service history all live on the asset. SafetyCulture's core strength is forms, inspections and safety programs (10,000+ public templates, iAuditor, SC Training LMS). Its Assets pillar (launched 2023) adds a digital register and pre-starts, but the primary UX flow is inspection-first. A top-voted feature request in the SafetyCulture Better Community asks to 'Allow an Asset to be used anywhere' - the current behaviour is that 'an asset may only be a question on the title page of an inspection, and the asset type question can only be used once.' For teams where 'who has this asset, where is it, when is it due' is the primary question, MapTrack's architecture fits better.

Which connects telematics and fleet data?

MapTrack connects 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources directly. SafetyCulture brokers telematics via third-party partners.

MapTrack connects 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources directly in its integration directory. Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Geotab, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Motive and more to ingest engine hours, odometer, fuel consumption, fault codes and DTC alerts. This data powers automated maintenance triggers. SafetyCulture brokers telematics through partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas - the data flows only as fast as those partner connectors update. For OEM-driven maintenance triggers and geofence-based utilisation reporting, MapTrack's direct integrations remove a layer.

Which is better for compliance?

Both are strong. SafetyCulture has 10,000+ templates and iAuditor. MapTrack links compliance to each asset and escalates to maintenance.

Both platforms handle compliance well but from different angles. SafetyCulture has 10,000+ ready-made inspection templates, the iAuditor tool and SC Training LMS for safety program depth that few platforms match. MapTrack attaches pre-starts, inspections, certificates and evidence directly to each asset record - failed checks auto-trigger work orders, creating an asset-first compliance loop. MapTrack also ships AS/NZS-aware templates you adapt to your standard (test-and-tag intervals, EWP/SWP prestart regimes, AS 3760 electrical) - SafetyCulture's library defaults to global/US standards. If you need breadth of safety templates and training, SafetyCulture excels. If you need compliance tied to asset records, maintenance escalation and AS/NZS content, MapTrack's approach is stronger.

Which has native GPS tracking?

MapTrack ships native GPS trackers. SafetyCulture's Live Map depends on third-party telematics partners.

MapTrack integrates GPS trackers, including ultra long-life battery units for real-time asset location on a map, trip history and geofence-based entry/exit alerts. BLE beacons add proximity detection in sheds and laydown areas. SafetyCulture's Live Map and Assets pillar depend on third-party telematics providers (Samsara, Geotab, Motive and partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas) - the platform itself does not ship its own GPS hardware. For assets without OEM telematics already fitted (tools, small plant, light equipment), MapTrack's tracker ecosystem is more flexible.

Which has better maintenance?

MapTrack has OEM-driven work orders on all plans. SafetyCulture's automated maintenance is Premium-only.

MapTrack integrates live OEM telemetry (engine hours, odometer, fault codes) to trigger work orders automatically. No manual meter entry. Inspections escalate to work orders automatically. Available on all plans. SafetyCulture's Assets pillar includes work orders and automated maintenance, but automated maintenance requires Premium and above, and independent CMMS analysis (Fabrico 2026) notes SafetyCulture 'lacks a robust native maintenance execution engine.' For teams that need maintenance driven by actual OEM usage data, MapTrack's integration depth is a significant advantage.

Where SafetyCulture wins

SafetyCulture is a strong platform with genuine advantages in several areas. A balanced comparison should acknowledge where the competitor excels:

10,000+ public inspection templates

Ready-made templates for virtually every industry scenario - construction, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality - so teams start with best-practice checklists immediately. No competitor matches template marketplace breadth.

AI form builder (iAuditor)

AI-powered template creation from images or PDFs. One of the best inspection-form tools on the market, used by 76,000+ organisations across 180+ countries.

SC Training (LMS) - 1,000+ courses

Full learning management with microlearning, accredited courses, certifications and competency tracking. 77,000+ lessons delivered daily. MapTrack does not match this for training-first programs.

Scale and global reach

76,000+ organisations across 180+ countries. 1 billion+ checks completed annually. Trusted by major global enterprises - proven at global enterprise scale.

Free tier - up to 10 users

Up to 10 users and 5 templates at $0 - a genuine no-cost entry point for small teams or compliance-only use cases.

Heads Up broadcast communications

Real-time safety messaging with read acknowledgment - a differentiated capability for hospitality, retail and logistics where MapTrack does not compete.

Frequently asked questions: SafetyCulture vs MapTrack

Yes. MapTrack has pre-starts, inspections and compliance attached to each asset. You can create forms with AI-assisted form creation (from PDF or description). Evidence is stored on the asset record for audits. Failed checks auto-trigger work orders. MapTrack is built for asset-first operations - inspections tie to the asset and escalate to maintenance. SafetyCulture has deeper template breadth (10,000+ public templates) and the iAuditor tool. If forms-first inspection programs are your core workflow, SafetyCulture is strong; if compliance needs to live on the asset and feed maintenance, MapTrack's link is tighter.

SafetyCulture uses per-seat pricing across three plans: Free (up to 10 users, 5 templates), Premium ($24/seat/month annual or $29/seat/month monthly) and Enterprise (custom). Within the paid plans you can mix seat types: Full seats, Lite seats (around $5/user/month with a reduced inspection allowance) and free Guest seats. At 100 Premium seats annual, licensing is $28,800/year before any add-ons - and that figure grows with every new hire. MapTrack uses per-asset pricing with unlimited users, so operators, supervisors, subcontractors and managers all get access without a per-seat penalty. Per-user pricing was the most-cited cost pain in SafetyCulture reviews on Capterra, G2 and Connecteam comparison pages.

SafetyCulture's Assets pillar does not state a dedicated asset reservation or 'book this asset for this job' module. Task and maintenance scheduling exist, but a planning view that prevents double-booking specific assets between crews is not in the published documentation. MapTrack has built-in reservations standard on all plans - reserve specific assets by job, see availability across the fleet, and avoid double-booking. Verify with SafetyCulture whether reservations are available at your plan level.

MapTrack offers AI-assisted asset creation (snap a photo, MapTrack suggests asset details) and AI form creation (describe a form or upload a PDF and MapTrack builds it). SafetyCulture has a strong AI form/template builder (convert images or PDFs to inspection templates) for inspections. AI asset creation from a photo is not stated in SafetyCulture documentation. Both support digitising workflows - the AI focus is different. Compare in a pilot for your specific use case.

Both platforms handle compliance well but from different angles. MapTrack attaches pre-starts, inspections, certificates and evidence to each asset record - failed checks escalate to work orders automatically. SafetyCulture has 10,000+ public inspection templates, iAuditor and SC Training for broader safety programs. A top-voted feature request in the SafetyCulture Better Community asks to 'Allow an Asset to be used anywhere' - currently 'an asset may only be a question on the title page of an inspection, and the asset type question can only be used once.' If compliance is tied to specific assets and needs to feed maintenance, MapTrack's asset-first architecture is stronger. If you need safety audit templates and training depth, SafetyCulture leads.

MapTrack connects 150+ telematics, fleet and fuel-card data sources in its integration directory (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Geotab, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Motive and more) to ingest engine hours, odometer, fuel consumption, fault codes and DTC alerts. SafetyCulture supports telematics-sourced location through partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas - the data flows only as fast as those third-party connectors update. For OEM-driven maintenance triggers, MapTrack's direct integrations remove the partner layer.

An asset-first platform like MapTrack is built around the asset register. Every compliance record, work order, reservation and maintenance schedule ties to a specific asset. A forms-first platform like SafetyCulture is built around inspections and checklists. Its Assets pillar (launched 2023) adds a digital register and pre-starts, but the primary UX flow is inspection-first. Independent CMMS analysis (Fabrico 2026) notes SafetyCulture 'lacks a robust native maintenance execution engine.' For teams where 'who has this asset, where is it, when is it due' is the primary question, MapTrack's architecture fits better.

SafetyCulture's Live Map and Assets pillar depend on third-party telematics providers (Samsara, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Motive and partners such as Fleetyr and Bravas) - the platform itself does not ship its own GPS hardware. MapTrack integrates GPS trackers, including ultra long-life battery units, for real-time asset location on a map, trip history and geofence alerts. BLE beacons add proximity detection in sheds and laydown areas. For assets without OEM telematics already fitted, MapTrack's tracker ecosystem is more flexible.

Export your asset register and compliance records from SafetyCulture as CSV. Upload into MapTrack and AI-assisted import auto-matches your column headings. Our onboarding team maps your sites, categories and custom fields. Guided setup and crew training are included. Most teams are operational within a week.

Yes. MapTrack provides RBAC and a public API on all plans, with SSO and Active Directory (Azure AD, SAML) on Enterprise as a Pro add-on. Hosting is on AWS Sydney with AU data residency by default, and regional (EU/US) hosting is available on Enterprise. Per-asset pricing with unlimited users enables enterprise rollout without per-seat cost escalation. SafetyCulture also supports enterprise scale with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, SSO and SCIM (Premium and above), API access, plus SC Training for workforce competency. Confirm SSO plan-level for SafetyCulture - it sits on Premium.

Yes. MapTrack is Australian-founded and hosted on AWS Sydney with AU data residency to keep data in-country for AU teams. The template library is AS/NZS-aware (test-and-tag intervals, EWP and SWP prestart regimes, AS 3760 electrical inspection cadence) and you adapt each template to your standard. SafetyCulture is also Australian-founded with a global template library and 10,000+ public templates, but its default content is US/global rather than AS/NZS-specific. For AU teams in mining, civil, councils or facilities where AS/NZS compliance is the regulatory baseline, MapTrack ships local content you can adapt out of the box.
