The hidden cost of hardware lock-in
Hilti ON!Track software tracks any brand, but its automated tracking runs on Hilti hardware: the AI T320 BLE Smart Tag for small tools, the AI T400 GPS Geo tag for machinery and vehicles, plus Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Gateways. This hardware is sold separately, with prices listed in Hilti’s online shops: in Australia, a 20-pack of AI T320 smart tags is A$812.40 discounted net (about A$40.62 a tag) and the Heavy Equipment Gateway starts at A$1,168. The AI T400 Geo tag’s price is not publicly listed.
That hardware works within the Hilti ON!Track ecosystem (tag detection also uses the Trackunit network). If you want to switch providers, the hardware investment does not transfer. Teams with large tag deployments (hundreds or thousands of tags plus gateways) face significant sunk cost when evaluating alternatives.
