Why this is the first number to work out

Decide which vehicles and plant you want to equip, then check the mounting, power and viewing requirements. Plan location, inspection and maintenance records for the other assets in your register as well. A cab count helps size a proposal; it does not certify that a camera will fit every asset counted.

Footage review also needs a budget and an owner. Estimate the event volume, minutes per review and staff cost, then compare the result with what happens in your pilot. Include any managed review service, installation and hardware costs in the wider budget.

What share of a fleet can normally take a dash cam?

This calculator doesn't assert an industry-wide share. It adds the road vehicles and cabbed plant entered in the form and compares them with the total asset count. It assumes one camera per counted vehicle or cabbed machine. Confirm mounting, power and viewing requirements with the supplier; this estimate doesn't establish installation suitability.

Why include footage review time in the budget?

Footage review takes staff time as well as the equipment and subscription costs. Estimate the event volume and minutes your team will spend on each review. Check the assumptions against a pilot and include any external review service separately.

Where do I get a realistic events-per-vehicle figure?

Ask suppliers for the measurement method, then run a pilot across representative vehicles, routes and operating conditions. Record the flagged events, review outcomes and staff time. Use enough observations to understand variation before expanding the rollout.

Does a managed review service remove the review load?

It reduces it rather than removing it. Where a vendor includes a human review layer, set minutes per event to the time your own team still spends after that service has done its pass, and price the service separately.

What covers the other assets in my register?
