9 best plant and equipment management software in Australia (2026)
Running plant, equipment and tools across Australian sites? We evaluated 9 platforms on pre-starts, servicing on run hours, risk and compliance, offline use, pricing and Australian presence.
GM of Operations
For Australian contractors and hire companies running plant, equipment and tools across sites, the best plant and equipment management software keeps each machine's pre-starts, servicing on run hours, defects and custody on one record. MapTrack (built in Brisbane) fits that brief with per-asset pricing and unlimited users. Assignar suits crew and plant scheduling on civil jobs, Ideagen Plant Assessor plant risk assessments, MEX maintenance-led teams wanting an Australian CMMS, and Teletrac Navman vehicle-led fleets.
Key takeaways
- Plant is serviced on run hours, not only calendar dates: check each platform can plan services from meter readings.
- Pre-starts are the daily evidence trail: they should work without reception and turn a failed item into a work order.
- Tools lead with different jobs: compliance (Plant Assessor, SafetyCulture), maintenance (MEX, MaintainX), scheduling (Assignar). MapTrack keeps the register, pre-starts and servicing together.
- Pricing models differ: per asset with unlimited users (MapTrack), per machine (Plant Assessor), per user (MaintainX, SafetyCulture) or unpublished (Teletrac Navman, Assignar, Kynection, MEX).
- On data hosting, ask where every sub-processor runs, not only the main database.

How we evaluated these platforms
We started from the platforms Australian buyers are shown when they ask search engines and AI assistants for plant and equipment software, then assessed each on how machines are identified and located, servicing (including run hours), pre-starts, risk and compliance records, mobile offline use, pricing model, trial and Australian presence. Competitor details come from each vendor's own website as of Sep 2026; where a capability is not stated publicly we say so rather than guess.

MapTrack is built in Brisbane for contractors, hire companies and asset owners running plant, equipment, tools and vehicles across sites. What to check before choosing plant and equipment software
Plant puts specific demands on software. Test each of these in a demo with your own machines rather than taking it on trust.
- Pre-starts without reception. Operators should be able to finish a pre-start in a pit or a basement and have it sync later. Start from a plant pre-start checklist to see what a good one covers.
- A failed item becomes a job. A failed check should raise a work order, not sit as a red tick on a form nobody reads.
- Servicing on run hours. Plant is serviced on hours, not only calendar dates; check the system can raise services from meter readings. See meter-based maintenance.
- Risk and registration records. High-risk plant needs risk assessments, and some items, such as certain cranes, boilers and pressure vessels, must be registered with your state WHS regulator. Decide whether those records live in your plant system or a specialist tool.
- Attachments that travel with the machine.Buckets, hammers and tools should stay with the machine's record so they come back with it.
- Pricing on your real machine count. Per-asset, per-machine and per-user models land very differently once every operator needs access.
How much does plant and equipment software cost in Australia?
There are four common models: per asset with unlimited users, per machine, per user, and unpublished or quote-based pricing. GPS trackers and cameras are usually separate hardware.
MapTrack is priced per asset: tools and equipment from $1 per asset per month, and fleet, plant and heavy machinery from $8 per asset per month, with unlimited users on every plan and a 30-day free trial. See pricing.
Plant management vs fleet management software
Plant management centres on machines: pre-starts, servicing on run hours, defects and risk. Fleet management centres on vehicles: telematics, drivers, fuel and heavy-vehicle compliance. If vehicles are most of your fleet, compare the best fleet management software in Australia; if you mainly need to know where tools and equipment are, see the best asset tracking software in Australia.
Choosing plant and equipment software in Australia
Start from the job your crews do every day. If it is pre-starts, servicing on run hours and knowing who has each machine, prioritise one register that keeps them together, then compare pricing on your real machine count. MapTrack covers equipment management, pre-starts and meter-based maintenance in one system; a demo shows how it handles your own plant.
