You'll need
- The asset or location that will receive the readings already exists
- A clear measurement name and unit, such as engine hours, kilometres or cycles
- An agreed reading frequency if the team wants due and overdue prompts
Steps
Open Meters
Open Meters and choose Add meter. Use one meter definition for one consistent measurement, such as Engine hours or Odometer.
Name the meter and choose its unit
Enter the Meter Name, add an optional Description and select the Measurement Unit. Choose Custom only when the required unit is not available, then enter the Custom Unit.
Good to know: Use a clear unit that the team will recognise when entering and reviewing readings.
Set the reading frequency
Under Advanced Options, set an optional Reading Frequency. This controls when MapTrack shows that a reading is due or overdue for a tracked asset or location.
Create the meter
Choose Create Meter. Use Save and add another only when you have another distinct measurement to define.
Choose what receives the reading
Open the meter, select Assets or Locations and choose Record Reading. Select the asset or location, then choose Next.
Enter the reading
In Record meter reading, enter the Meter Reading Value and choose Save Reading. The value must be a number greater than or equal to zero. Admins can also set the reading date where that control is available.
Check any warning before saving
MapTrack warns when a value is lower than the previous reading or more than 30% higher. Recheck the equipment and the selected asset, meter and unit. A warning asks for verification; it does not automatically block the reading.
Confirm the reading history
Open the linked asset, location or meter history and confirm the new value, unit and date. Correct the record promptly if it was entered against the wrong item.
What you should see
The reading is saved against the selected asset or location and appears in meter history. Its frequency can show when the next reading is due.
Current limits
- Offline meter-reading behaviour is not covered in this guide. Test the exact device and workflow before relying on it without reception.
- Lower or unusually high readings produce a warning for review; they are not automatically rejected.
