Important: Any lifting gear that fails inspection must be immediately removed from service, tagged as defective and quarantined. Do not attempt to repair chain slings, wire rope slings or synthetic slings. Condemned items must be destroyed to prevent re-use.

Chain Sling Discard Criteria (AS 3775.2)

Any link worn to 90% or less of original diameter (10%+ reduction)
Any permanent elongation/stretch
Bent, twisted or kinked links
Any crack, nick or gouge
Heat exposure above 400°C
Illegible WLL tag

Wire Rope Sling Discard Criteria (AS 1666)

6+ broken wires in one rope lay
3+ broken wires in a single strand
Broken wires at eye/termination
Kinking, birdcaging
Pitting corrosion
Damaged ferrules/swages

Synthetic Sling Discard Criteria (AS 1353 / AS 4497)

Cuts over 1mm
Holes/punctures
Abrasion with material separation
Heat damage (melting, glazing)
Chemical damage
UV degradation
Knots
Cover damage exposing core (round slings)

Shackle Discard Criteria (AS 2741)

Any deformation
Elongation of pin holes
Excessive wear
Cracks
Corrosion reducing cross-section
Pin damage/bent pin
Pin won't thread by hand
