Crane Option Comparison

Assess at least two crane options. Record capacity at the required radius and percentage of rated capacity the lift will use.

Site Constraints and Hazard Register

Record each constraint or hazard identified during the site review. Assign an initial risk rating and note proposed controls.

# Constraint / Hazard Details Risk Proposed Control
Access and Ground
1Access route for crane delivery
2Ground bearing capacity at set-up
3Underground services in set-up area
Overhead and Adjacent
4Overhead power lines
5Adjacent structures in swing arc
6Other cranes operating nearby
Public and Environmental
7Public access / pedestrian areas
8Traffic management requirements
9Wind / weather exposure
10Other (specify)

Risk: L = Low, M = Moderate, H = High, E = Extreme.

Critical Lift Determination (AS 2550 Section 8)

Tick any criteria that apply. If any box is ticked, a critical lift plan will be required.

Tick AS 2550 Section 8 Criterion
Load will exceed 80% of crane rated capacity at planned radius
Tandem lift (two or more cranes required)
Load path over occupied buildings or public areas
Lift within minimum approach distance of live power lines
Load has no certified lifting points
Personnel on the load or hook block
Feasibility
Feasible - standard lift plan Feasible - critical lift plan required Not feasible - redesign required
Recommendations and Actions
Record the recommended crane option, additional studies required (geotechnical, electrical clearance survey, traffic management), and actions for the detailed lift plan.

Declaration

I declare that this lift study has been prepared in accordance with AS 2550:2021 (Cranes, hoists and winches - safe use). The load weight, dimensions and lift geometry have been obtained from the best available sources and are recorded with their source reference. Site constraints and hazards have been identified through a site review and are documented above. Crane options have been assessed against the required lift parameters. Where any AS 2550 Section 8 critical lift criteria are triggered, this has been flagged so that a critical lift plan can be initiated. This lift study is a preliminary assessment; a full lifting plan or critical lift plan must be prepared before the lift takes place.
